PRATONE (1971) by Ceretti, Derossi & Rossi - ICONICAL COLLECTION

Pratone represents a desecrating project idea light years away from the usual typologies of the bourgeois furnishings of the 70 years, an enlarged portion of lawn conceived for single or collective rest that amazes for its entertaining precariousness. Unique and unconventional chaise longue that has not yet found epigones, Pratone has become a benchmark in the history of design since 1972, when it was chosen for the cover of the exhibition catalog Italy: The New Domestic Landscape created by MoMA in New York .
An object outside the box, it preserves its artisan soul: each of the 42 long soft stems to sink into is in fact worked and finished by hand as well as the Pratone inscription engraved on the base of each module. Precisely for these specificities, each Pratone needs 5 weeks of work to get to the finished product.
Its bright green and the softness of its stems are obtained thanks to the coating with Guflac, the special and unique finish patented by Gufram that allows to pelletize the polyurethane while maintaining its flexibility and softness.
Inserted by the Vitra Design Museum among the 100 masterpieces of the history of Design, Pratone has been exhibited in some of the most important museums in the world - such as the MUDE in Lisbon and the Musée des Beaux Arts in Montreal - and is still celebrated as a symbol of the revolution cultural anti-design, a real icon that has freed the user from the conditioning of his habitual behavior.
On the occasion of his 50 years, Gufram presented the all-white Nordic Pratone version: a portion of a frozen lawn that irony the influence of Scandinavian design and the cultural homologation of design inspirations.
